- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪In Dec 2008, I suffered an air embolism followed by 3 strokes. I was on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for 5 days & in a coma for 9. When I woke up, I had no movement or feeling on the right side of my body. When I left the hospital 2 weeks after that, the Neurologist told me I would never walk again unassisted. In October 2011, I walked (OK limped) to the front of the church without my cane, to get marry the love of my life. In spring of 2013, I was able to downhill ski (not well, but well enough). I owe my recovery to the therapists at OASIS, as well as my determination and stubbornness, but without them, I would not have stood a chance. Am I walking perfectly no, but according to the Doctors & Specialists, I wasn't supposed to be able to walk at all.
